SUBJECT: Public Service Pension Plan At a Glance and other information products for plan members

I am pleased to announce the issue of a new information sheet, Public Service Pension Plan At a Glance. In connection with the recruitment initiative of the federal government, we wanted to design a document that will give an overview of the Public Service Pension Plan. This information sheet summarizes the pension benefits and advantages offered to plan members.

Even if this information sheet is designed first and foremost for recruitment and orientation officers, we think it can be useful to all employees who want a summary of their pension plan. We asked the chiefs of Compensation of departements and organisations to distribute this information sheet to their compensation advisors, but you can also spread the word to managers who recruit employees. For a general description of your pension plan, take a look at the Public Service Pension Plan At a Glance which is posted on the main menu of Pensions under the descriptive head of "Information for members" on the following Web sites:

Other information products for plan members

Other pension information products will be implemented in the coming year. They are outlined below:

Your Statement of Pension and Group Benefit Plans and the Guide

Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) produced a Statement and a Guide in order to provide up-to-date information to plan members on their future pension benefits and the protection offered by their group benefit plans. These documents will be distributed, free of charge, to all plan members by the end of this fiscal year.

Pension Benefits Calculator

In spring 2001, we announced the official launch of the Pension Benefits Calculator. This Web-based tool was developed by the Pensions Divisions of PWGSC and TBS to enable employees to estimate their eventual retirement pension.

For 2002, we plan several improvements for this Web site that will provide more tools to to assist plan members in their financial planning decisions. We will implement a new Elective Service Cost Calculator and a Net Pension Calculator.

The Pension Benefits Calculator resides on the Compensation Publiservice Web site at the following address:
