Interchange Canada

Interchange Canada promotes stronger ties between the Public Service and all other sectors, in Canada and internationally, by giving employees in one sector the chance to take on temporary assignments in another sector. The result is a sharing of knowledge about business practices and processes and strengthened professional and personal development of employees.

Who can participate ?

Interchange Canada is open to employees in all groups and levels of the Public Service and to employees in business, other levels of government, Crown corporations, unions, academic institutions and non-profit organizations, both within Canada and internationally.

How does an assignment happen?

Initiating an assignment can happen in different ways.

  • A host organization identifies an assignment opportunity. The appropriate federal department and the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer's Interchange Canada Program are available to assist in identifying candidates.
  • An organization wishing to sponsor an employee may look for an appropriate assignment in another sector. Again, federal departments and the Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer are available to assist.
  • An employee identifies a possible assignment.

If you are interested in posting your resume on our web site, submit your résumé and an authorization form to the resume posting service. Of course, your organization must be willing to sponsor you and there must be a host organization willing to offer you an assignment. Assignments can last up to three years.
