- INAC, in collaboration with Health Canada and other departments, will undertake consultations with First Nations representatives, regional First Nations organizations and provincial/territorial governments on the principles of a new federal legislative framework for safe
drinking water on First Nation reserves, based on incorporating by reference existing provincial/territorial regulations (adapted as required to First Nation realities). This will support the Government of Canada’s commitment in Budget 2007 to promote First Nations’ access to safe drinking water and to develop a regulatory regime to oversee water and wastewater
