Program Activity Architecture 2012-13

The graphic demonstrates how NRC's strategic outcomes are supported by its program activities and program sub-activities.

NRC's first strategic outcome is "Advancements in the development and deployment of innovative technologies in targeted Canadian industries and national priority areas in support of federal priorities in innovation and science and technology." There are four specific program activities for achieving this outcome.

Program Activity 1.1 is Manufacturing Technologies, which includes the following four program sub-activities: 1.1.1 Aerospace Research; 1.1.2 Construction Research and Support; 1.1.3 Manufacturing and Materials Research; and 1.1.4 Surface Transportation Technology.

Program Activity 1.2 is Information and Communications Technologies and Emerging Technologies, which includes the following four program sub-activities: 1.2.1 Semiconductor-Based Technology Research; 1.2.2 Information Technology Research; 1.2.3 Nanotechnology Research; and 1.2.4 Molecular Sciences Research.

Program Activity 1.3 is Industrial Research Assistance.

Program Activity 1.4 is Health and Life Science Technologies, which includes the following six program sub-activities: 1.4.1 Health and Environmental Biotechnology Research, 1.4.2 Age-Related and Infectious Disease Research, 1.4.3 Medical Diagnostic and Technology Research, 1.4.4 Marine Biosciences and Nutrisciences Research, 1.4.5 Plant Biotechnology Research, and 1.4.6 Genomics and Health Technology.

Program Activity 1.5 is Energy and Environmental Technologies, which includes the following four program sub-activities: 1.5.1 Ocean Technology Research, 1.5.2 Sustainable Energy Technologies and Environmental Monitoring Research, 1.5.3 Fuel Cells Technology Research, and 1.5.4 Hydraulics Technology Research.

NRC's second strategic outcome is "Canadians have access to research and development information and infrastructure." There are two specific program activities for achieving this outcome.

Program Activity 2.1 is National Science and Technology Infrastructure, which includes the following four program sub-activities: 2.1.1 National Measurement Standards, 2.1.2 Canadian Astronomical Observatories, 2.1.3 Facility for Sub-Atomic Research TRIUMF, and 2.1.4 Canadian Neutron Beam Centre.

Program Activity 2.2 is Scientific, Technical and Medical Information.

Program Activity 3 is Internal Services, which includes the following three program sub-activities: 3.1 Governance and Management Support; 3.2 Resource Management Services, and 3.3 Asset Management Services.
