1. SDS Departmental Goals:
- Reduced energy consumption and green house gas (GHG) emissions
- Reduced Departmental vehicle usage and GHG emissions
- Most products and services procured are 'green'
- Maximize departmental contribution to sustainable communities

2. Federal sustainable development goal, including greening government operations (GGO) goals
The department will contribute to federal sustainable development by adhering to federal environmental quality and sustainable development management goals.
The relevant goals for the department are :
- Clean air
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
- Sustainable communities
- Sustainable use of natural resources

3. Performance measurement from current SDS
Building Energy:
- Reduction in use of paper for printing/copying
- Reduction of office electricity use
- Completion of energy audits for PS offices located in NCR by 2007-08 and by 2008-09
- Completion of GHG emissions reduction strategy for PS offices located in NCR by 2007-08 and 2008-09
Vehicle Emissions:
- Increase in number of green or fuel-efficient vehicles leased or rented by PS staff
- Increase in number of new users of public transit services
- Reduction of fuel purchased on PS business per kilometre driven
Green Procurement:
- Reduced energy use in offices
- Increase in percentage of "green products" procured
- All toner cartridges used are remanufactured or recycled
- Reduction in the number of toner cartridges sent to landfill (waste)
- Increase in volume of computer and office equipment diverted to E-waste depots or returned to manufacturers.
- Increase in volume of recycled materials diverted to recycling programs
Sustainable Communities:
- Emergency management legislation in force
- National critical infrastructure plan implemented
- Number of youths engaged in gang prevention activities
- Number of projects aimed at reducing substance-related crime
- Number of projects funded to lower risk factors for at-risk families and children

4. Department's expected results for
2008–09
- Public Safety offices will have improved energy conservation performance
- Reduced vehicle fleet and staff private vehicle GHG emissions
- Products and services purchased have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment
