Green Procurement

How is your department planning to meet the objectives of the Policy on Green Procurement?

The Agency has introduced a Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) which sets clear objectives in that area and establishes, among other things, goals with respect to green procurement. The main goal of the SDS in that regard is for the Agency to have undertaken to implement its own green procurement policy for March 31, 2008.

Has your department established green procurement targets?

Describe the green procurement targets that have been set by your department and indicate the associated benefits anticipated.

  • Introduce a departmental green procurement policy to provide a framework for eco-friendly purchasing.
  • Invite materiel managers and employees responsible for purchasing to participate in training on green procurement. This undertaking should help raise procurement employees' awareness of "buying green."
  • Motor vehicles must be replaced by low-consumption vehicles. This practice enables the Agency to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in business travel.
  • Paper purchased must be fully recycled. This sound practice is already in place and it encourages recycling.
