Table 3: Green Procurement

Green Procurement
How is your department planning to meet the objectives of the Policy on Green Procurement?
The CGC follows the procurement process established by Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC). Recurring purchases are ordered from the standing offer as established by PWGSC. The CGC has implemented the following sustainable initiatives to meet the objectives of the Policy on Green Procurement:
  • A service agreement is in place to service CGC printers and supply cartridges. The majority of printer cartridges used are recycled.
  • Copy paper purchased is 30% recycled paper.
  • Printing is done on recycled paper when possible.
  • The majority of IT equipment is recycled through the Computers for Schools Program.
  • A trade- in program is used for upgrades to certain components of CGC analytical equipment when possible.
  • The majority of new electrical equipment purchased is Energy Smart.
Has your department established green procurement targets?
  In progress
Describe the green procurement targets that have been set by your department and indicate the associated benefits anticipated.
While the CGC does not have formal green procurement targets at this time, environmental considerations have been incorporated into the procurement process. These are consistent with the overall objective of value for money in procurement while also complying with associated legislative, regulatory and policy obligations. The CGC is investigating green procurement targets with respect to the purchase and use of fleet vehicles.
