Term Employees - Earned and Unused Sick Leave Credits

The purpose of this bulletin is to inform departments of the impact the re-opening of the current collective agreement for the Program and Administrative Services (PA), Operational Services (SV) and Education and Library Science (EB) collective agreements will have on continuous employment.

Sick Leave Credits

Effective December 21st, 2010, sick leave credits earned but unused by a term employee during a previous period of employment in the public service will be restored to an employee if:

  • The employment was terminated due to the end of a specified period of employment;
  • The employee is re-appointed in the core public administration within one year from the end of the specified period of employment;
  • The employee had a positive balance of sick leave credits.

Part 5- Continuous Employment in the Directive on Terms and Conditions of Employment pertaining to the sick leave credits portability upon re-appointment to the core public administration will be amended accordingly.
