Action Plan

As part of the Port Hope Project, on-site containment and monitoring of contaminants is currently underway. Once a new long-term waste management facility is constructed, these wastes will be emplaced therein.

Additional Information

The Port Hope Area waste is classified as Historic Waste, meaning that it is low-level radioactive waste for which the owner cannot reasonably be held responsible and for which the federal government has accepted responsibility for long-term management. The waste, in its current situation, does not create an urgent health risk, but is not sustainable from a regulatory perspective.
