Pay equity interest cheques will be sent to departments during the week of November 27, 2000. It is expected that departments will distribute these cheques to recipients throughout December 2000.
The interest cheques should be the final substantial payment made to most recipients. Consequently, in order to ensure that individuals receive the exact final amount that they are entitled to legally receive under the orders of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, departments will not release the interest payment until a final reconciliation of each person's pay equity account is completed. If there will be a delay in releasing an interest payment, the recipients will be notified by the department as soon as possible.
Recipients should note that no tax will be deducted at source from these cheques and that they should plan accordingly.
