Program analyst, policy analyst or expenditure analyst are the three main options.
David: It's very challenging and very exciting. At any given time I'm working on a number of different projects for a number of different stakeholders and the workload is quite diverse and I'm certainly never bored here.
John: Working on files that I can see going all the way to the top management of Treasury Board and beyond to Canadian citizens is very rewarding, satisfying and it’s privileged, not everyone can do it.
Jacob: When I first came here, I was given a lot of responsibility, many different departments. My voice was heard right away. I was meeting with senior directors, influencing their policy decisions in departments and making choices literally within a week.
Narrator: As a Treasury Board Secretariat analyst, you’ll receive an attractive compensation package and flexible work arrangements. And we help you plan your career with a formal career development program and continuous learning opportunities.
Michael: The salary package is very competitive. It’s actually what I work with is the salaries plus you don’t realize there’s great benefits, your vacation and the value of your pension. I don’t think many young workers are really concerned with that but that defined pension is going to be very valuable.
Morgan: It certainly enticed me to move to Ottawa that I was going to be able to be in a position where I would move forward with my career and that I was going to be more successful in moving forward more quickly.
Charles: They care about me. They care about my career. They care about me as a person and they want me to succeed.
Caroline: I love Ottawa. I think it’s a great city.
Morgan: We’ve had the opportunity to take advantage of the active lifestyle here. We love going rollerblading on the paths and going for walks down by the river.
Michael: It's got great facilities. I was just in Gatineau Park this weekend. You can't beat it for museums.
Michael: Whether you want to go cross-country skiing, boxing, dragon-boating, all that stuff is relatively well organized in Ottawa.
David: The cost of living is quite reasonable. The outdoors are very accessible. The bars and restaurants are great. Ottawa is a really nice place to live.
Narrator: We want the best and brightest, people with a range of skills from diverse backgrounds but each committed to Canada to making a meaningful contribution to our country.
Seyi: We are looking for individuals who can work smart, who can defend their ideas, who can bring results and a team player.
Suzanne: If you're bright, if you're a team player, if you're a team builder, then this is the place for you to apply.
Narrator: To apply, you must either be a student or a graduate of master's and/or Ph.D. programs in the following subject areas: policy or public administration, economics, or business administration.
David: I really would encourage university graduates to apply to this program. It puts you at the centre of government, offers you a huge opportunity for advancement and promotion and really gives you an excellent chance to launch your career in government.
Seyi: I think people should consider a career at the Treasury Board Secretariat because here's the opportunity to take what you've learned in school and put it into practice. This is where the rubber hits the road. It's where policy comes to life. It's where you actually make an impact on the lives of Canadians.
Narrator: And let's be absolutely clear about our work: it's not easy and it's not for everyone. The demands and the pressure to perform are great but job satisfaction is great too.
