1. Access to Information

To access information on a topic within a federal government institution, you must fill out an Access to Information Request Form, then send it to the federal government institution holding the required information.

To access your personal information, you will need to fill out a Personal Information Request Form and follow the above procedure.

Go to the Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) coordinators list for mailing addresses for each federal government institution.

2. Health care benefits

To become a member of the Public Service Health Care Plan (PSHCP), contact your departmental compensation advisor. The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat does not maintain a list of departmental compensation advisors. Please contact your departmental public enquiries unit to find out who is responsible for medical compensation matters.

3. Dental care benefits

To become a member of the Public Service Dental Care Plan (PSDCP), contact your departmental compensation advisor. The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat does not maintain a list of departmental compensation advisors. Please contact your departmental public enquiries unit to find out who is responsible for dental compensation matters.

Coverage information on your dental plan is available by contacting the dental plan's administrator at the Great-West Life Assurance Company.

4. Pensions

5. Pensioners' Dental Services Plan

Pensioners can obtain dental care coverage with the Pensioners' Dental Services Plan (PDSP).  For more information, you may wish to contact the Plan's administrator, the Sun Life Assurance Company.

6. Travel

Public service employees requiring business travel-related information should first contact their Designated Departmental Travel Coordinator (DDTC) with their questions.

The DDTC should be able to answer your questions. If further information is required, your coordinator may contact the policy expert at the Treasury Board Secretariat to obtain more specific interpretation of the Directive's provisions.

If you are an individual or a company working with the federal government and require further information, please contact the departmental project officer or project authority managing your contract.

7. Social Insurance Number (SIN)

Visit the Service Canada website for information on the social insurance number (SIN).

You may also wish to contact a Service Canada representative by calling 1-800-622-6232 (1-800-OCanada).

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada also provides a fact sheet on privacy issues with regard to your SIN.

8. Parental leave

If you are a citizen not employed by the federal public service, you will need to contact Service Canada at 1-800-622-6232 for more information. You may also wish to consult the Employment and Parental Benefits section of the website.

If you are a federal public service employee requiring information on parental leave benefits, you will need to contact your departmental compensation advisor. As the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat does not maintain a list of departmental compensation advisors, please communicate with your departmental public enquiries unit to obtain a more specific contact.

9. Security

Please note that security clearances are only processed when requested for a specific requirement.

In accordance with the Policy on Government Security, both the requirement for and the processing of a personnel security-screening action must be based on a specified need. As such, please do not initiate the completion of this or any other security-screening form unless this need has been identified by the federal government department/agency that requested you to complete them.

If you are a contractor, private-sector employee or a citizen wishing to obtain a security clearance, you will need to contact the Industrial Security Program (ISP) at Public Works and Government Services Canada. Contact information is available below:

If you are a public servant requiring information on your security clearance, you will need to contact your Departmental Security Officer.
