Figure 1 Statistics Canada’s Corporate Management Framework and strategic outcome diagram (in 1.2)

This diagram is presented in the form of a pyramid without its top point. It is divided into five horizontal bands. The top band is labelled “Outcome: Canadians have access to timely, relevant and quality statistical information on Canada’s changing economy and society.”

Below this are four bands, each representing a aspect of the outcome.

The first is called “Relevance.”

The next band down is divided into two horizontal sub-bands, with “Trust,” representing the second aspect of the outcome, spanning over the sub-band below. The sub-band below is divided into three sections, “Quality,” on the left, “Objectivity” in the middle and “Confidentiality” on the right. Quality, objectivity and confidentiality must be present in statistics for users to be able trust them.

The third band is called “Access,” which is needed for people to obtain information.

The fourth and lowest band is called “Stewardship.” It represents the seriousness with which Statistics Canada takes its role of collecting information from Canadians.

Three borders on the diagram represent the enablers that help Statistics Canada achieve these outcomes. On the left edge is “Human resources,” on the right edge is “Governance,” and across the base is “Risk management.”
