About Canada's Performance 2006-07

This is the seventh Canada's Performance report tabled in Parliament by the President of the Treasury Board. Canada's Performance 2006‑07 tracks the federal government's contribution to Canada's performance as a nation in four spending areas–economic affairs, social affairs, international affairs, and government affairs. The report provides a whole-of-government perspective from which to view the results and resources of individual federal departments and agencies as presented in their fall performance reports.

President's Message

Vic Toews - President of the Treasury Board As a government, we are driven by a vision of excellence in the management of Canadians' tax dollars. In 2006‑07, our Government put in place a number of measures that are taking the federal government to higher standards of achievement in public administration through strengthened management and accountability and results-based spending.

In 2006‑07, the Canadian economy gave a strong performance with the creation of thousands of new jobs, resulting in the lowest rate of unemployment in more than 30 years. Canada also played a significant role in international peace, security and assistance through its active engagement abroad. Perhaps most importantly for Canadians, the Government of Canada is focussing spending on new and existing programs that reflect their priorities and provide value for money.

Canada's Performance 2006‑07 outlines the federal government's contribution to Canada's performance as a nation. I invite you to read it to take stock of our progress toward a better and stronger Canada.
