The Privacy Impact Assessment Guidelines: A Framework to Manage Privacy Risk

The Guidelines help institutions conduct a PIA by providing detailed criteria and a step-by-step approach to the process. The steps include:

  • Project Initiation/Needs Assessment
  • Documenting the Data Flow
  • Privacy Analysis
  • Privacy Impact Assessment Report

You'll learn more about each of these steps in Module 3.

Where programs and services involve cross-jurisdictional or cross-sectoral activities, PIAs assist institutions in identifying the requirements of the various legislations and ensure that the provisions of federal legislation and policies are respected.
