Ottawa – Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board, today announced the launch of a new pilot project that enables Canadians to submit access to information and privacy requests online. The pilot provides better service for Canadians by making the process of requesting government records simpler and more convenient.
"Our Government is the most open and transparent government in Canadian history. Canadians are accessing more government information than ever before," said Minister Clement. "This new online tool makes the process easier and is an important step towards a more modern and advanced administration of access to information."
This pilot makes it easier to submit access to information and privacy requests to the three departments participating in the pilot: Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Treasury Board Secretariat, and Shared Services Canada. Instead of printing, scanning and mailing forms to these departments, individuals can now simply submit their requests online. Requestors can also securely pay the application fee for their access to information and privacy request online using a credit card, further simplifying the process.
After the one-year first phase of the pilot, the intent is to implement it with other federal institutions, making it easier to submit an access to information or privacy request across government.
This initiative is part of the modernization of the administration of access to information, one of the commitments of Canada’s Open Government Action Plan.
