Ottawa – June 18, 2009 – The Public Service of Canada honoured several outstanding employees with the Public Service Award of Excellence at a ceremony held today in Ottawa, Ontario. This Award recognizes some of the many public servants who have demonstrated excellence, professionalism and leadership in serving Canadians.

"Renewal of the Public Service has never been more crucial than during this global recession." said Prime Minister Stephen Harper. "The accomplishments of this year's recipients clearly demonstrate that the Public Service of Canada is a professional and adaptable institution, dedicated to serving Canada during these challenging times."

The Public Service Award of Excellence is a non-monetary award presented annually to recipients in the following categories: Outstanding Career; Management Excellence; Innovation; Excellence in Citizen-focused Service Delivery; Employment Equity and Diversity; Official Languages; Youth; and Exemplary Contribution under Extraordinary Circumstances.

This year's award recipients have demonstrated by their excellence and their commitment how the Public Service embraces change and continually seeks more effective and efficient ways to serve Canadians.

"With the ever changing pace and complexity of the challenges we face as a country, the need for talented and dedicated public servants has never been greater" said Kevin G. Lynch, Clerk of the Privy Council. "All public servants can draw inspiration from the creativity and commitment of this year's recipients, who are making a real difference for Canadians."
