At CIOB, the Information and Privacy Policy function involves:
- Developing access to information and privacy policy instruments;
- Providing advice and guidance to the more than 250 government institutions
subject to the Access to Information Act and the
Privacy Act;
- Implementing the access to information and privacy portions of the
Federal
Accountability Act;
- Establishing priorities and performance indicators pertaining to the Access
to Information and Privacy (ATIP) policies;
- Monitoring compliance by analyzing and reviewing public reporting documents
required by the Access to Information Act and
Privacy Act
and other information resources to assess institutions' administration of the
Acts. Additional monitoring activities include conducting compliance assessments
of those government institutions subject to the Management Accountability Framework
(MAF);
- Managing the Info Source publication and distribution process and providing
advice and guidance to government institutions developing content for Info Source
publications;
- Info Source is a series of publications with information about Government
of Canada institutions' programs, activities and related information holdings
(including personal information collections);
- These publications are key reference tools to assist members of the
public exercise their rights under the
Access to Information Act
and Privacy Act.;
- Leading, supporting and providing training to the Government of Canada's
ATIP Community; and
- Providing guidance to institutions on proactive disclosure initiatives that
make certain types of government information available as part of the government's
commitment to promoting transparency and accountability.
