Government of Canada Awards Contract for Review of IT Transformation

The Government of Canada recognizes that a strong and modern information technology (IT) infrastructure is the backbone of better service delivery for Canadians.

To that end, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS) awarded a contract August 17, through an open selection process, to Gartner Canada Co. (Gartner) to conduct a review of Shared Services Canada’s (SSC) plans for implementing government-wide IT infrastructure.

The review will result in recommendations that will inform the Government of Canada’s vision of government-wide IT infrastructure, together with input from other sources, including House of Commons standing committees; the fall 2015 report from the Auditor General; and broad-based employee, industry, thought leader and public consultations.

Gartner is an international firm with offices in several Canadian cities and expertise in countries around the world.

As part of the review, Gartner will convene a panel of Canadian and international information technology professionals. The panel’s skills and knowledge will provide insights into ways to improve the delivery of modern IT services for the Government of Canada.

The following experts are on the panel:

• William G. Oates: Former Chief Information Officer of Massachusetts, former Chief Information Officer of the City of Boston and former Chief Information Officer of Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide
• Luc G. Portelance: Former President and Executive Vice President of the Canada Border Services Agency and former Chief Information Officer at the Canadian Security Intelligence Service
• Ron L. Hughes: Former Chief Deputy State Chief Information Officer for California and Director of the State’s Data Centres
• William (Paul) Wickens: Current Chief Executive of the North Ireland Shared Services Organization
• Salvatore (Sal) Anthony Calta, Jr.: former VP, Business Transformation, IBM
