Public Service renewal
Serving with pride, delivering on excellence

Public Service renewal

Renewal is about making sure that the federal Public Service preserves and strengthens its capacity to contribute to Canada's successes through the delivery of excellent services and policy advice. The Public Service of Canada, like other employers, is facing significant pressures as a result of an aging population, new technologies, globalization and a competitive labour market.

Since 2007, the Clerk of the Privy Council Office has been leading Public Service Renewal by outlining the direction for renewal and identifying priorities for action in the annual report to the Prime Minister on the Public Service of Canada.

Public Service Renewal themes for 2011:

  • Engaging Employees in the Excellence Agenda
  • Renewing the Workforce
  • Renewing the Workplace

The Office of the Chief Human Resources Officer (OCHRO) supports the Clerk in promoting excellence across the Public Service through programs such as performance management, leadership development, talent management, employment equity, values and ethics, employee benefits and the management of labour-management relations.

Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee Background and Reports

The Prime Minister’s Advisory Committee on the Public Service was established in 2006 to give advice to the Prime Minister and the Clerk of the Privy Council on the renewal of the Public Service. The objective is to help support the Clerk and Deputy Heads’ efforts in shaping the Public Service into an institution geared to excellence, distinguished by highly-engaged and highly-skilled people performing critical tasks with professionalism and efficiency.
