Information available

Burolis contains the list of all offices that communicate with or serve the public, as determined by the institution's official languages responsibility centre (OLRC).

Burolis posts the official languages status of offices. This information is indicated under the heading "language obligations" (English and French, English, or French).

For offices required to communicate with or serve the public in both official languages, Burolis furthermore posts the telephone numbers, published by the institution, to reach that office. The telephone numbers provided are usually those found in the government blue pages in the telephone book.

For the offices that are not designated bilingual, Burolis provides as a courtesy a link to the institution's Web site so that anyone consulting this specialized database can find a telephone number to contact that office.

Third parties acting on behalf of others

Burolis does not contain a list of the offices of third-parties not subject to the OLA that, pursuant to contractual agreements, act on behalf of the institution in communicating with or serving the public.

Institutions concerned are required to create a directory of third parties that act on their behalf and to audit compliance with the language provisions in the agreements, as applicable.

Source

The information contained in Burolis comes from the Regulations Management System (RMS), a computerized tool made available by the Official Languages Branch to the OLRC within institutions to determine whether their offices outside the National Capital Region are required to communicate with and serve the public in both official languages, in accordance with the Regulations.

Limits

Burolis is not trying to duplicate existing information on institutions' Web sites informing Internet users about various ways (i.e. telephone, fax, e-mail address, telephone lines for impaired hearing, etc.) to contact the institution concerned or one of its offices. If required, this information can be obtained by directly accessing the concerned institution's Web site through the courtesy link provided in Burolis.

Please Note

Despite all their efforts, OLRC are not informed instantaneously of changes in the contact information of their institution's offices (street addresses or published telephone numbers).

Therefore, anyone wanting to take down street addresses or telephone numbers of offices designated as bilingual should check the accuracy of the data in Burolis against the information posted by the institution on its Web site.
