Discussion - Questions on ATIP Training and Development ATIP Community Meeting – February 25, 2009

  1. What training is required for all Government of Canada employees and should such training be mandatory?
  2. Training for ATIP functional specialists
    1. What training is required for ATIP functional specialists, that is what do they need to know to contribute to the management of the ATIP function in the Government of Canada? Should this training be mandatory for all ATIP employees, both those employees new to the field and those who have been in their positions for an extended period of time? How would you define "new to the field"?
    2. Electronic records pose a significant and particular challenge when responding to ATIP requests. What kind of training needs to be developed for ATIP employees to better equip them to meet this challenge?
    3. Many institutions have substantial regional operations. Is a modified training program to meet their training needs required? Would such a modified training program be delivered to all specialists in the institution or only those outside the National Capital Region? What additional issues would need to be addressed?
  3. What training is required for ATIP coordinators? Should this training be mandatory for all ATIP coordinators, both those who are newly promoted and those who have been in their positions for an extended period of time?
  4. What informal learning would be most beneficial, i.e. secondments, formal developmental program, case studies, etc.
  5. What delivery methodologies would be most suitable to meet ATIP community learning requirements? To what extent could technology play a role?
